Development Update 3
UPDATE
We have sent our game in for the Level Up Showcase which is an event that connects industry professionals to students to provide feedback on their work. For us to be able to send the game in for level up we had to give them a demo.
At this point we have a demo of the main mechanics of the game which includes a game where you can kill monsters or be killed and use sword or a gun to kill monsters. We are still waiting for the results to see if we got accepted into level up and we will have to wait to see what happens.
As far as development goes, I was able to complete basic AI for our enemy types and I am currently working on a more advanced AI to make it more challenging for the player.
We have also done a playtesting session for our game and received feedback in the form of a google document where we ask the play tester various question in regards to gameplay. We took in the responses and will make adjustments to the game as necessary.
BUSINESS
Following up on Blackburne Games company - Indie DB from my last blog post. Their first game Ex Natura has had an early access release on Steam platform. Their game is being sold for $12.99 CAD and has overall received a positive feedback from a total of 24 people (91% of the feedback are positive) from a release date of Feb. 20.
I have tried looking for the sales for this game but the site I used does not have the sales yet, I suspect this because the game has just been released.
This is the website used to check steam sales: Search - Steam Charts
Looking through the steam comments I can gather that a lot of the negative reviews stem from a buggy game. This will cause us to do more intensive play testing to make sure bugs will be found before released and that the game works as intended.
In terms of their marketing on steam, they have released a gameplay video, a couple trailer videos, and some still images which as a gamer gets me excited to play because the visuals look amazing. Other than that they seem to be lacking when marketing on other platforms. This may be one of their issues in only achieving 24 reviews from people.
I will continue to follow them to see how they progress after a few months, hopefully sales numbers will be accessible then.
